So, you are riding along in your favorite car of all time, when somebody runs a red light and crashes into you. If no one is hurt except for your car, and if you have had the car for over ten years, and you are not making payments anymore, whatever insurance money that you get will either go toward a new car or restoring this one. But which option should you should you choose? That depends. Here are some things that you may want to think about before deciding that your old car has reached the end of its road.
Classic or Vintage
If your car is over 20 years old, it may have classic status as far as your insurance is concerned, but unless there is some particular feature that sets it apart, it may be considered by the rest of the world to just be old. Some older vehicles are given a vintage status if they were part of a limited edition, have exceptionally low mileage, or are in pristine condition, but for most older cars, they are simply old.
Personal Value
Even if your car is not considered a classic by the collectors, there is no need to despair. If the car is particularly valuable to you for sentimental reasons, you may still want to consider having it restored. You will always have the memories of that favorite car, and if you can get a little more life out of her, it may just be worth the cost.

The final thing that you may want to consider is the actual cost of restoring your vehicle. When a car is older, insurance companies may decide that it is easier to total it than to have you get quotes for having it fixed.
